Journals and Grief Workbooks

Grief journaling has been shown to have therapeutic value and to enhance meaning making. This is largely to do with its ability to help the brain process and cope with chronic stress following traumatic events. For those who already have an inclination to write, a simple notebook may be all you need.

For others, guided journals and grief workbooks provide welcome prompts and a dedicated space to connect with your unique experience of grief and loss. Research shows that engaging in these practices allows you to become more comfortable with suppressed and traumatic memories, calming the fear centre of the brain, which is often in overdrive during the grieving process.

“Some things cannot be fixed. They can only be carried. Grief like yours doesn’t get smaller because someone else has it worse. Your pain is your pain. It deserves space and attention. Being sad, being heartbroken, being devastated, these things don’t make you weak. They make you someone who loves deeply. This isn’t about ‘getting over it.’ It’s about learning to live with it, beside it, through it, in a way that honours what you’ve lost.”
